Enjoy this 2 days Ziwa Rhino Trekking Sanctuary safari. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary and wildlife ranch located in Nakasongola district is the proud home of the only wild white southern rhinos in Uganda. The rhino re-introduction project is a project of Rhino Fund Uganda and Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA).
The Sanctuary is conveniently located 176km (100 miles) north of Kampala city on Kampala – Gulu highway, just towards Murchison Falls National Park. You will branch off at Nakitoma Trading centre, in Nakasongola to reach Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Ziwa is the only place where you will be able to see rhinos in the wild while you are in Uganda so as to increase on your list of the Big five safari animals. That is, the rhinos, lions, leopards, buffaloes and elephants.
Currently, the Sanctuary is home to twenty-two (22) southern white rhinos, and these were exported from Kenya and South Africa. However, the population is very promising, and the number of rhinos is steadily and gradually increasing year by year.
2 Days Ziwa Rhino Trekking Sanctuary
Day 1: Kampala – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
Our guide picks you up from your hotel or place of residence in Kampala at 07:00am to begin the panoramic drive north-west through the famous Luwero Triangle via Masindi. You will branch off for a visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided rhino walk/rhino trekking. You will spend your evening on a birdwatching tour. The sanctuary contains over 300 bird species, with four bird trails which cover woodlands, a swamp and the savannah. The bird guides are excellent, and this is an activity that cannot be missed by bird lovers!
Overnight stay and meal at Ziwa Rhino Guest House. Meal plan: lunch & dinner.
Day 2: Ziwa Rhino – Kampala/ Entebbe Out
Wake up at 6:00am prepared to take a photograph of the African rising sun in the morning as you enjoy coffee. Get ready for a morning boat canoe ride in search for the shoebill stork before returning to your Lodge for full breakfast and an early lunch. You may also choose lunch en-route to Kampala, before being dropped off to your hotel or place of residence.
