Murchison Falls game drives are the most common and exciting tourist activities in Murchison Falls National Park. The Park is the largest national park in Uganda located on the shores of Lake Albert, in the northwestern part of the country. It is famous for its ‘most powerful waterfalls in the world’, which squeezes through an 8-metre-wide gorge, forming an amazing splash that is beautiful to see.

Murchison Falls National Park sits on an area of about 3,840 sqkm and is home to over 450 recorded bird species, including the rare shoebill stork. Along the shores of the Nile and within the waters you will see lots of hippos and crocodiles among other resident wild animals.

The Park is endowed with several attractions including over 76 mammal species – with four members of the big five: lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes. Other species include bushbucks, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks, warthogs, giraffes, Jackson’s hartebeest, and hyenas. All these can be seen during a day or night game drive.

There also several primates which you can still spot on your Murchison Falls game drives, including baboons and several other monkey species.

Night Murchison Falls game drives.

The new nightlife experience is part of Murchison Falls game drives as one of the ways to enhance tourist experience while in the park. Night game drives are another beautiful way to explore the park while viewing the rare nocturnal wildlife species. This is done in open-roof land cruisers that are fitted with spotlights and covered on the top, to provide a better chance of good night visibility compared to fully covered safari vehicles.

During a night game into the wild, the night viewers are also able to see some elephants, wild rats, and antelopes, among other animals. This is proof that a night game safari gives an entirely different perspective of the park.

Much as there are a variety of animals to see at the break of dawn, there are many chances to see traditional nocturnal animals. These include the leopard, hyenas, hippos, porcupines, genets, civets, bush babies, various reptiles, owls and night jars.

After the evening game drive, visitors may be driven back to the lodge at 8:00pm or choose to continue on a night game drive before returning to the lodge later at 10:00pm.

Other national parks in Uganda with highest concentration of wildlife in Uganda include Queen Elizabeth National Park. This is famous for the tree-climbing lions in the southern Ishasha section and a boat cruise along Kazinga channel that joins Lake George and Edward. Kidepo Valley National Park is also another suitable place for the best wildlife safaris in Uganda.
