Buligi game track counts as one of the best game tracks in Murchison Falls National Park located in the northern section of the park. The game track is characterized with savannah grasslands, woodland, acacia, and Riverine vegetation that stretches between the Victoria and Albert Nile. This is around 120-170km in length, making it the most popular game track within Murchison Falls National Park.

Buligi game track hosts numerous mammals that are eye-catching to visitors. These include lions, giraffes, elephants, leopards, hyenas, warthogs, bushbucks, jackals, and buffaloes among others. There are majorly two main activities that can expose you to such wild animals: that is, safari game drive and hot air balloon safari.

A safari game drive within this game track begins either in the morning or in the evening where it exposes you to a variety of wildlife animals. The best time for this game drive is during the dry seasons. Some visitors don’t feel enough during day game drive, so they opt for night game drives too.  

The night game drive in Buligi game track gives you a rare opportunity to see traditionally nocturnal animals. These include the leopard, hyenas, hippos, porcupine, genets, civets, bush babies, various reptiles, owls and nightjars among others. All these shall make your safari unforgettable.

A hot air balloon safari along Buligi game track is a kind of activity one would love to participate in while on a wildlife safari in Murchison Falls National Park. The balloon goes as high as 10,000 ft above the sea level, which gives you a unique opportunity to see the wild at 360 degrees.

The hot air balloon safari takes place in the morning as sun rises, because this is the best time to see wild animals as they also rise from their sleep, and in their natural environment. You will be able to have a great view of the savannah below you, teaming with all kinds of wildlife animals.

How to access Buligi Game Track

Visitors can access the track by using the gates of the northern sector of Murchison Falls National Park, including Tangi, Chobe, Wankar, and Mubako gates. These are the only accessible gates in the northern section of the park. Other gates which are accessible through the southern section include Kichumbanyobo and Bugungu gate.

By air, there are majorly three airstrips that provide access to Murchison Falls National Park. Chobe and Pakuba airfields found in the northern sector of the park, which make it easier to access Buligi game track, whereas Bugungu airstrip is located in the southern sector.

Best time to visit Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park can be visited all year round, however, the best time to visit is during the dry seasons from December to February and June to September. As a result, these make up the peak season in Uganda because these are times when animals gather at the water drinking points around the Victoria Nile and other reliable water sources. Hiking trails are dry during this season which makes the activity and nature walk easier.
