Situated along Hoima-Kagadi road approximately 5 kilometers off Kabwoya Trading Center and 40 kilometers South of Hoima, Bugoma Jungle Lodge is a small and secluded Eco-friendly Tented Camp managed/run by Uganda Jungle Lodges. Bugoma Jungle Lodge is one of a few accommodation facilities used by travelers exploring the 400-square-kilometer Bugoma Forest Reserve in southwestern Hoima. This Forest Reserve is known for its unique diversity which includes over 23 mammal species such as chimpanzees, olive baboons, and vervet monkeys among others. There are more than 200 bird species including the African crowned eagles and Nahan’s francolin, butterfly species, reptiles and several species of Amphibians.

This eco-friendly tented camp is one of its kind, featuring 5 private raised wooden deck cottages that are grass-thatched as well as spacious tents. These rooms also feature a luggage rack, comfortable beds in Queen, Single, Twin, and Triple settings. There is a spacious sitting area with chairs and a table, an en-suite bathroom, a laundry basket and bag, a working desk and reading light which is perfect for travelers on business and leisure, refillable water bottles, and a luggage rack, among others.

Being an eco-friendly accommodation facility, Bugoma Jungle Lodge is powered by solar energy, for guests’ lighting and water heating needs. There is also a backup generator, especially during rainy seasons when sun heat is reduced.

Bugoma Jungle Lodge’s main building is where the restaurant is located thus allowing guests to enjoy a wide range of delicious meals while interacting with each other. Also, Wi-Fi is available here, in addition to the bar and upper floor panoramic open veranda surrounded by a forest thus providing nothing more than the sweet melodies of mother nature as well as a chance to sight lots of bird species.

Guided forest walks

Starting at Bugoma Jungle Lodge with a briefing, guided forest walks lead visitors through the beautiful Forest Reserve where some of the most unique primates can be sighted. These include the Ugandan mangabeys, vervet monkeys, and olive baboons among others.

Birding

With over 200 bird species to look out for, birding is another extraordinary activity you can enjoy while staying at Bugoma Jungle Lodge. There are high chances of spotting the Nahan’s francolins, African crowned eagles, and grey parrots among others. The Internal loop trail and the community village walks are perfect for sighting different bird species.

Community walks

Bugoma Jungle Lodge visitors can also visit the nearby Kyamujogo and Nyakafunjo Villages to learn about the local traditions, ancient practices. You will also learn about local cuisines, traditional dances, and other day-to-day routines of a typical rural homestead.

Tree Planting

Bugoma Forest Reserve is a diversity hot spot but faces endless threats resulting from timber production, encroachment, and poaching. Therefore, the tree-planting project was launched in 2021 with the aim of reforesting at least 100 acres of land. Travelers are therefore invited to plant a tree as a way of combating climate change and reducing carbon emissions.

Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, which is an all-day activity, can be done here during off-season months. These are the low seasons running from March to mid-June and October to December.
