Heritage Safari Lodge is a recreational value of the landscape surrounded by flora and fauna in Uganda’s largest national park, Murchison Falls National Park. Heritage Safari Lodge is located 370 km from Kampala – the capital city of Uganda. That is 270 km on Kampala – Gulu highway and 100 km on the Karuma – Arua road. The Lodge is also located on the great north-south elephant corridor that brought the Luo ethnic group, the missionaries and the early explorers in their quest for the source of the Nile.

The Lodge is located at Wang lee, the point where the two feuding Luo legendary brothers, Gipir and Labongo separated from. They thus formed the two tribes of the present day Alur on the west of the Nile and the Acholi on the eastern side. The third brother, Kumarac, proceeded south wards to form the Luo- Babiito.

The location was carefully selected to be within 5 minutes – drive to Murchison Falls National Park. This easy access gives ample opportunity for early morning and afternoon game viewing safaris, as well as allowing tourists get back for lunch and have some rest, in time.

Accommodation at Heritage Safari Lodge

Accommodation at Heritage Safari Lodge consists of luxurious and standard cottages as well as tents. The camping ground is popular with self-sufficient or budget guests.

The traditional round-hut cottages are designed and constructed to provide guests with both worlds. On the outside, a typical two step-thatched round huts. The interior is a combination of tradition and modernity. Each cottage is en-suite with modern eco-friendly bathroom fittings with a characteristic high showerhead.

The cottages give guests 180-degree view; to the east, the early morning sun rise and hot spring. To the immediate south, right in front of the cottages you can spot the hot spring as it flows into the Nile. To the west, the Albert Nile itself, with some of the community members in their canoes going about their daily routine.

The cottages are designed to allow unique and flexible bedding arrangement to suit each guest’ unique requirements; single, double, triple, quadruple, and family among others.

The Bandas provide uninterrupted view of the Albert Nile and the surrounding green meadow of rolling savannah, where schools of hippopotamus and herds of elephants can be viewed as you enjoy a sundowner. The open plan lounges are ideally suited for drinks, gourmet cuisine, evening interaction and the staging of traditional dance gala.

Restaurant

The restaurant with indigenous flavors of Africa serves both a-la-carte and buffet style meals. The cocktail bar provides guests with 180-degree panoramic view of the Nile.

Bonfire

The lodge has a unique heritage of the Lwo culture which involves story-telling or folklores, collections of the Lwo artifacts, historical reference maps, pictures and Luo folktales.

Gardens

A taste of Heritage, safari and riverside experience, begins in the garden with an early morning bush breakfast when you choose to have it there. The resident birds will keep you entertained while you enjoy the morning sunrise and the cool refreshing breeze from River Nile.

Nature Walk

For physical exercise, the lodge was designed to provide trails for nature and community walks, bicycle riding, canoeing and boat rides as well as aerobics on the riverbank.
